In the northeast corner of the English Garden stands the brilliant and intriguing Angelica gigas, a short-lived perennial native to Asia. With beautiful dark purple-red obovate flowers, Angelica grows four to five feet high and has firm roots and a ridged stem.

Hibiscus syriacus Rose-of-Sharon

On the far west side of the Iris Meadow, snuggled into the nook of the rock wall near the Gazebo, there is a profusion of lavender-blue flowers on full display. These blooms belong to the Rose-of-Sharon shrub, a native plant to Southeast Asia. Each individual flower only lasts about 24 hours before they drop off in the evening.

Graze will be adding a special “Garden Cocktail” featuring ingredients from Allen Centennial Garden, and Posh Plant guests will be the first to get a taste of the action.

Luminous 2016

Allen Centennial Garden hosted a new wintertime garden event on February 19–20, Luminous. Over 3,000 people came to enjoy the Garden and the six elegantly designed luminary exhibits, bonfires, s’mores and hot chocolate. The Garden interns were the masterminds behind the event and each curated a different installation. Peaceful illuminations lit up the Garden and no one let the high winds on Friday lower their spirit's. Thank you to everyone who attended in 2016. We're already making plans for the return of Luminous in 2017!

Everyday Life Scarecrows
