A 30th Thank You!

More than four hundred friends and supporters joined us to celebrate the Garden’s 30thyear on Friday, June 26. There was an abundance of love and positive energy in the air, complemented by live music from Wheelhouse, special remarks by Chancellor Blank and College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Dean Kate VandenBosch, flower crowns, cake, clips from an expanding Garden oral history, and the unveiling of a new temporary exhibit, “Then and Now,” chronicling the evolution of the Garden over the past thirty years. We even made the local news

Three decades is a long time to nurture anything, especially a garden, where everything from critters to a changing climate present regular opportunities for innovation and adaptation. So many folks who joined us played, and continue to play, an important role in our evolution. We had the sincere pleasure of chatting and celebrating with many of these passionate people. On behalf of the entire Garden family, it means a great deal to have your support and friendship as the Garden grows into another decade.

This is only the beginning of our celebration. With the arrival of high summer, the Garden is entering a time of raucous performance with bold textures, hot colors, exciting programs and new ventures. Later this fall, you’ll see exciting work taking place as we begin to upgrade and renovate key garden spaces including the Wyman Kitchen Garden, Rock Garden, and Carson Conifer Garden. We have plans for other upgrades in the future, thanks to an update of our long-range master plan, including cutting-edge green infrastructure, a refreshed entrance garden, and more. Contact Jodi Wickham at the UW Foundation to learn how you can help.

The garden is in a unique position on campus in that everything we achieve is thanks to the support of our community, from our volunteers to members of the Friends of Allen Centennial Garden. No matter how you express your support for our work, every bit is welcome, appreciated, and necessary to move us forward.

It truly takes a village. Thank you for being ours.

Best,

ACG Staff
