The Allen Centennial Garden is a place of beauty, serenity and romance. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we’re exploring one couple’s love story that had its start in the Garden.

Meet Sean and Katey Pratt, both past Allen Centennial Garden interns and University of Wisconsin-Madison alumni.

“We met as freshman in the landscape architecture studio after procrastinating working on a school project,” Katey chuckled.

The couple ended up as interns at the Allen Centennial Garden during the summer of 2010.

Katey worked specifically in the Rock Garden, while Sean worked in other areas of the garden.

“I would always go over and visit Katey in the Rock garden while she was under the hot sun pulling weeds,” Sean laughed.

Sean and Katey have fond memories working at the Garden, including being runway models at the Posh Plants fundraiser held by the Friends of the Allen Centennial Garden.

As models they showcased various auction items with a horticultural flair. At one point the bidding had died down so the couple thought of something clever to reignite the energy.

“We were engaged at the time so I told everyone we would kiss if someone else laid down a bid. We got a few more bids out of that,” Sean said.

Sean and Katey also were the masterminds behind the conceptual design of the Sustainability Garden.

The couple has been together for over six years and wed on October 10, 2015. While they did not get married at the Garden, their love story blossomed within its magical 2.5 acres.

Will you be the next Allen Centennial Garden love story? We hope so. We’re open dawn to dusk, so come take a look around; you might just find ‘the one.’

Do you have a love story from the Garden? We’d love to hear about it!
