Youth Field Trips

Calling all garden explorers!

Discover the wide world of plants and horticulture with a field trip in the Garden. Choose from one of our pre-built offerings below, or contact us with a custom request.

  • All field trips support Common Core State Standards by encouraging critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Maximum of 32 students per field trip.
  • A minimum of one chaperone for every five children is required.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) guides available upon request
  • Field trips must be scheduled three weeks in advance.

Cost: $3/per student (Title 1 schools are free)

Problems and Plants

Math, science, and horticulture intersect in this immersive field trip. Small groups will work together on real life garden-based problems that practice science and math skills. Skills practiced include identifying parts of a plant, plant needs, area, perimeter, multiplication, compare/contrast, observation and problem solving.

Level: 1–5 grade

Duration: 1.5–2 hours

Available: April–October

 

Garden on Your Terms: Customize a Tour

Customize your visit with a talk about a topic or garden of your choice. Previous tours have focused on the intersection of literature and horticulture, developing basic gardening skills, and plant evolution and adaptability. To help you get the most out of your visit and get everyone talking, you’ll receive materials with discussion points about each garden prior to your visit..

Please note: Groups larger than 32 can be accommodated with a price increase.

Duration: 1–1.5 hours
